Fatal car accidents increased for first time in 6 years

Fatal car accidents are on the rise in the United States. This is the first year in six years that fatal car accidents have increased, according to a report by the Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety. They report that in 2012, 33,561 people were killed in car accidents in the country, which is a 3.3 percent increase from 2011.

Vehicles communicating with each other can prevent crashes

In an attempt to improve safety and reduce car accidents in the United States, the Department of Transportation is advocating for a radio system installed in new vehicles to prevent car accidents. The short-range radio system would allow vehicles to "talk" to each other by providing information about the vehicle's speed and direction. This technology could help prevent accidents as a vehicle could notify approaching vehicles about slower traffic and other obstructions that could result in a collision.

FMCSA going after unsafe bus, truck drivers

We've previously discussed bus accidents in the United States and despite the Transportation Department's best attempts to increase safety and reduce crashes, bus accidents are still happening. In the wake of several horrific commercial bus accidents across the country, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is trying to crackdown on dangerous bus and truck drivers to prevent future accidents.
