Woman injured in accident with delivery van

On Behalf of | Dec 7, 2017 | Car Accidents

The roads in Worcester and throughout Massachusetts can be dangerous to pedestrians at any point in the year, but, when there are more people and vehicles on the road and many of those vehicles are making deliveries for the holiday season, it can lead to even more accidents. Some of these are inevitably going to involve a pedestrian. Because a pedestrian is so vulnerable, there can be serious injuries and even death. Those who have been affected by an accident should know how to proceed with a legal filing to receive compensation.

A FedEx delivery van hit a 71-year-old woman and injured her. According to the law enforcement investigation, the woman was in the process of crossing the street in the crosswalk when the van turned left and hit her. She suffered injuries to her arm, hips, feet and legs. She was taken to the hospital and was said to be in serious condition. She is expected to survive. The FedEx driver was not given any immediate citations, but it is possible that they will be issued after the investigation is complete.

Since pedestrians can face major injuries and life changes after being hit by a vehicle, it is imperative to consider the long-term ramifications of this type of crash. The driver of the vehicle might have been driving recklessly, the driver could have failed to yield, or the driver might have been distracted. The investigation is often the key to determining the exact circumstances of a pedestrian-auto accident. Insurance companies – especially those of a large company – will often try to settle a case before it moves forward. Accepting a settlement before understanding the full scope of what was lost and the injuries that were suffered can be a mistake.

If you have been injured in a car accident, whether as a pedestrian or a driver, you may wish to consult with an attorney to discuss the possibility of filing a lawsuit to recover compensation for your injuries.
