Mother and children injured in pedestrian crash in Massachusetts

Every day, Massachusetts residents rely on crosswalks to safely navigate busy streets. When a negligent driver fails to yield to pedestrians crossing the street or fails to see them due to speeding or distractions, this could cause a serious or even fatal pedestrian accident.

Police in Hopkinton were recently dispatched to Hayden Rowe Street in the vicinity of Chestnut and Grove Streets. According to preliminary reports, a car struck a mother and her children during the morning hours while they were crossing the street.

Police believe the collision occurred when a 61-year-old woman stopped her car to allow the mother and her three children to cross the street. That driver's vehicle was then struck from behind by another vehicle driven by a 32-year-old man, causing the first car to be pushed off the road. The second vehicle then continued forward, hitting the stroller the mother was pushing.

The mother and her children were all transported to the hospital with injuries. A four-year-old boy suffered the most serious injuries, with scrapes on his head and body. One of the drivers involved suffered injuries, but it is not clear which vehicle this driver was in. No charges have been filed at this time and the investigation is still ongoing.

When a motor vehicle strikes a pedestrian the result is often serious injury for the unprotected pedestrian. Investigation of an automobile-pedestrian collision is sometimes essential to determine cause and liability. This can help the injured victims recover compensation in a personal injury claim. Damages can be recovered for medical expenses, lost income and pain and suffering.
