Young man killed in collision with truck in Massachusetts

On Behalf of | Jul 29, 2016 | Car Accidents

During the early morning commute, the roadways in Massachusetts could be clear or busy depending on what roadway a motorist is traveling on and how early it is. One thing that is frequently true, whether a motorist is traveling during the early hours, middle or the day or during the night, he or she usually shares the road with large trucks. While semi-trucks and tractor-trailers are a common presence on the roadways, these large vehicles do present some dangers.

According to recent reports, a 22-year-old driver was recently killed in a two-vehicle collision in Avon. Preliminary reports indicate that the other vehicle involved in the fatal car accident was a truck. Authorities believe that the fatal crash occurred just after 5:00 a.m. on Harrison Boulevard between Pond Street and West Main Street.

At this time no charges have been filed, but investigation is still ongoing for this early morning fatal automobile collision. Due to the timing of the crash, it is possible that the truck driver could have been fatigued. It is not uncommon for truck drivers to drive all night long, working long hours. This could make it difficult to remain alert behind the wheel. Another factor could be alcohol, although investigators have not made any suspicions of this.

Once investigation is complete, authorities will be able to determine cause and liability. If a driver is negligent in a fatal crash, the loved ones of the deceased are afforded some recourse. A wrongful death suit is a possible option. This civil action could help family members recover compensation to offset financial losses incurred by the death of a loved one, such as funeral costs, medical expenses, lost wages and other related damages.
