Every day, various types of vehicles share the roadways in Massachusetts and other states across the nation. Large trucks are frequently seen on major roadways due to their frequent use to transport and ship goods across the state and country. Although these are very beneficial vehicles, they are also prone to serious and even fatal crashes. These massive vehicles are not able to maneuver the same way other motor vehicles are able to, and if a truck driver is negligent or road conditions are dangerous, a serious truck accident could ensue.
Authorities in Massachusetts were recently dispatched to a fatal tractor-trailer crash that involved a car and a tractor-trailer. Preliminary reports indicate that the collision occurred on the Massachusetts Turnpike in the westbound lanes.
It is unclear at this time what caused the two vehicles to collide, but much damage was caused to the other vehicle after the truck collided with it. In addition, after the initial collision, the impact of the crash caused the tractor-trailer to cross over the median and enter the eastbound lanes of the highway. No other collisions reportedly occurred but the truck blocked eastbound traffic.
All lanes in both directions were closed as a result of the truck accident. According to emergency crews, a 22-year-old woman in the automobile was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, and the driver of the tractor-trailer suffered severe injuries. The fatal accident remains under investigation.
Once the investigation is completed, authorities will likely be able to determine the cause. If the truck driver is at fault, the loved ones of the deceased could file a wrongful death suit. This could help them recover compensation for their losses and damages.
The loss of a loved one can be a difficult event to cope with, and it could take much time to get past the tragic event. Those dealing with the death of a loved one in a truck accident should seek information about their options. This will ensure they are aware of their legal rights and remedies.
