Rate of drunk driving fatalities down in Massachusetts

Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is one of the most common offenses in the United States; it is also a leading cause of motor vehicle accidents which result in everything from fender-benders to fatalities. Due to the major impact on society, driving while under the influence has been a battleground for many state and local governments. Many have employed the use of law enforcement campaigns with the theme "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over."

Determining who is an employee under workers' compensation

When a Massachusetts resident is injured on the job, that person has two options for recovery. In many situations, an employee may take their employer to civil court to sue to recover for any injuries they suffered. For a party to recover in a civil court they must prove their case by a preponderance of the evidence, a threshold not everyone can meet. Unlike cases in a civil court, however, workers' compensation claims don't require a showing of fault for compensation to be granted. Besides suffering from a workplace injury, the Massachusetts resident must be an employee of an employer that has worker' compensation insurance.

Dementia patients in nursing homes prescribed wrong medicine

Placing a loved one in a nursing home is a hard decision for many to make. Often times, it means removing their loved ones from their personal homes and placing them in a facility among strangers. The emotional toll of placing a loved one in a nursing facility can be just as high as the financial one. But when a loved one is suffering from an illness such as dementia, there are often few choices available and a nursing facility is usually at the top of the list. Although nursing facilities are equipped to properly care for patients with dementia and other mental illnesses, sometimes their care is too reliant on pharmaceuticals.

Massachusetts bus accident causes parents to question drivers

As a nation the U.S. has a questionable record in its treatment of those over the age of 60, including those in Massachusetts. While few say it aloud, many people believe that the older a person gets, the less able they are to correctly do a job. This thinking is present in almost every industry from fast food work to doctors and lawyers. But, many people fail to realize that those over the age of 60 are present in most workplaces across the United States.
